Garden Oaks and Oak Forest AV service and installation.

Ceiling speakers silent, Wi-Fi missing in a garage studio, or an inherited remote no longer controlling the TV? Obsidian Audio Video assesses existing AV and smart-home systems in Garden Oaks and Oak Forest, including Crestron, Control4, Savant and Lutron installations by others. Retrofit and new-installation planning can follow the assessment, from original homes to two-story builds.

Call 346-357-5323 with the property address, whether the house is an original home, a renovation or new construction, and what you want to fix or add.

PROPERTY PLANNING

Older construction and new builds need different wiring plans.

Renovated original homes: attic and crawlspace routes

Many original homes in these neighborhoods are single-story with an attic above and, in some cases, a pier-and-beam crawlspace below. Those spaces are often the practical route for speaker and network cable, but attic heat, insulation, existing electrical, framing and access all affect what is possible. Equipment such as amplifiers and network gear should not be placed in an unconditioned attic; plan a conditioned closet or cabinet with ventilation instead.

Keeping finishes intact

When the renovation is already complete, the goal is usually to add speakers, a TV or network drops without opening finished walls more than necessary. Wall construction, fire blocking and available paths decide which locations are realistic. Sometimes a surface raceway, a different speaker position or a wireless product is the better compromise; that is decided after looking at the house.

New two-story builds

New construction replacing an original home gives you a chance to pre-wire before drywall: speaker locations, display positions, an equipment location with power and ventilation, and wired access points on each floor. Bring the plans and builder schedule. A second floor and a detached garage or studio usually need their own access points rather than relying on one router.

EXISTING-SYSTEM SERVICE

Describe what changed and which rooms are affected.

  • Speakers in some rooms stopped playing: note which rooms are silent and whether the source plays in other rooms or on another device.
  • Wi-Fi is weak in the back bedroom or garage studio: list the rooms affected and where the router and any extenders are located.
  • A TV mount or wiring from the previous owner is unclear: photograph the wall plate, any equipment closet and the labels on cables.
  • Smart switches or the app lost control after an internet change: record the date of the change and what equipment the provider replaced.

We assess the equipment, its configuration and access to any programming or source files before recommending repair or replacement. Not every problem requires new equipment, and not every older device can be integrated with new products; compatibility is checked first.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

What to share before a Garden Oaks or Oak Forest visit.

Provide the address, an authorized contact, the rooms involved and photos of any existing equipment and labels. Mention whether the attic and crawlspace are accessible and whether finishes or historic details must not be disturbed. Do not include passwords or access codes in the contact form.

For new construction or a renovation in progress, share the plans, the stage of work and the builder contact. Ask about scheduling, any diagnostic or design charges, and what the first visit covers. Scope and scheduling are confirmed per address.

System guides and related services.

Choose the guide for your installed platform. Brand names identify the systems supported, not a guarantee that every model or requested change is serviceable.

Questions about AV service in Garden Oaks and Oak Forest.

Can you add ceiling speakers to a renovated house without major wall damage?

Often, depending on the attic access, insulation, framing and the rooms involved. Cable routes are checked on site; where a concealed route is not practical, alternatives such as a different location or a wireless product are discussed before any work.

Is it safe to put audio or network equipment in the attic?

Attic heat in Houston is hard on electronics, so amplifiers, network switches and similar equipment belong in a conditioned, ventilated space. Cable can run through the attic; the equipment itself usually should not live there.

Can you take over a system the previous owner installed?

Yes. Systems installed by others are supported. Share any documents, account invitations and equipment photos. What can be changed depends on equipment condition and whether account access and programming files are available.

When should AV wiring be planned for a new two-story build?

Before insulation and drywall. Plan speaker and display positions, an equipment location with power and ventilation, and wired access points on each floor with the builder.
