OBSIDIAN AUDIO VIDEO · EXISTING-SYSTEM SERVICE
Smart home service and repair in Houston
App offline, unresponsive remotes, silent rooms or lighting and shades no longer working together? Obsidian AV assesses existing smart-home systems, including installations by other integrators. Start with what stopped working—not an assumption that the whole system needs replacing.
Experienced assessment. Repair-first recommendations.
Bring the existing system to an AV professional with over 25 years of engineering, programming, integration and troubleshooting experience across platforms. The aim is to preserve equipment that can be supported and make everyday controls useful again, with access or compatibility limits explained before changes.
One home, several connected systems
This service is for faults that cross room controls, the home network, audio/video and lighting or shade integrations. A working internet connection does not establish that all local equipment can communicate. We separate the affected paths and identify the platform before recommending changes.
If you already know the brand, use the focused Control4, Savant, Crestron or Lutron service guide.

Inherited a system or lost touch with the installer?
A missing handover does not automatically mean the installation must be removed. Tell us the functions you want restored, what still works and which equipment is changing. Available project files, account permissions, licenses and compatible hardware determine the programming and recovery options.
A new television or cable box may need connection, device-control or configuration changes rather than a new automation system. We assess the actual equipment and authorized access before agreeing the scope.
From symptoms to a scoped service visit
- Describe the failure. List affected rooms, sources and interfaces and any recent router, equipment or power changes.
- Establish access. Identify the owner or authorized property representative and gather available documentation. Do not reset equipment to try to obtain access.
- Diagnose the affected paths. Review power, connectivity, signal routing and configuration as applicable. Programming is conditional on authorized tools, accessible files and compatibility.
- Agree the next step. Separate targeted repair, further investigation and optional upgrades, then test the agreed functions after authorized work.
Diagnostic charges, scheduling and the initial scope are confirmed before booking. An assessment is not a guarantee of project recovery or a completed repair.
Smart-home service questions
Do you service systems you did not install?
Yes. We assess the existing equipment, what still works and what can be accessed with the owner’s permission. Missing project files, unsupported hardware or licensing limits may affect repair and programming options.
Can you fix issues remotely?
Remote assessment may be possible where a supported connection and authorized access already exist. It is not available for every system, and physical faults or uncertain connectivity can require a visit. Confirm the appropriate scope before booking.
My installer is gone and I have no passwords. Can you help?
Start with an assessment. We identify legitimate account-recovery or access options for the actual platform, with proof of ownership and authorization as required. Missing access may limit work; we do not promise to bypass security or recover every project.
Should I reset the system or replace the router?
Avoid factory resets, unplanned firmware updates and network replacement before the configuration has been reviewed. Note what still works and gather available records. Do not send passwords or alarm codes through the public contact form.
