Distributed Audio Design Process
A whole-home audio system is not a collection of speakers — it is a single instrument played across many rooms. A multi-room audio system should feel like one cohesive design, not a collection of unrelated products. The design process begins with listening: not to equipment, but to you. What is the difference between Sonos and a distributed audio system?
Sonos is a wireless, self-contained system — each speaker has its own amplifier and connects over Wi-Fi. It is simple to set up and easy to expand, which makes it ideal for smaller homes or retrofitting existing spaces. A distributed audio system uses a central amplifier rack and in-ceiling or in-wall speakers wired back to it, with a dedicated controller managing zones and sources. Distributed audio offers higher sound quality per dollar at scale, cleaner installation with no visible electronics, and deeper integration with other home systems like lighting and climate.
