PROPERTY PLANNING
Equipment placement matters in renovations and elevated rebuilds.
Keep core equipment above grade
In homes that have been rebuilt or raised, it makes sense to locate the equipment rack, network equipment, amplifiers and power protection on the elevated living level or higher rather than in a ground-level garage or storage area. Decide where the main equipment location will be early, give it power and ventilation, and plan cable paths from there. Floor elevations and flood-risk decisions belong to the homeowner, architect and engineer; the AV plan should follow them, not assume them.
Longer runs and more transitions between levels
An elevated home often has parking or storage below the living floor, an entry stair and exterior equipment such as cameras or gate controls at ground level. That means more transitions between levels and outdoor runs. Plan conduit or chases between floors during framing, and keep any ground-level devices limited to what has to be there.
Renovations that keep part of an existing system
When an older Braeswood or Meyerland home is renovated instead of rebuilt, some lighting keypads, speakers or controllers may be worth keeping. Retaining equipment depends on its condition, compatibility with anything new, and whether the existing programming can be accessed. Bring the equipment list and identify which rooms are changing.
EXISTING-SYSTEM SERVICE
If equipment was moved, stored or exposed to water.
- Equipment was disconnected during construction: photograph labels and connections before anything is moved, and keep removed components and remotes together.
- Devices were exposed to water or high humidity: do not power them on to test. Have electrical safety assessed by an electrician and the exposed equipment inspected before any return to use; keep model numbers for your records.
- System works but some rooms are missing after a remodel: list the rooms affected and what construction work was done in them.
- Network or app control failed after the house was rewired: note the date and the internet or network equipment that changed.
We assess the equipment, its configuration and whether programming or source files are available before recommending repair, reprogramming or replacement. Water-exposed equipment may not be repairable, and that is decided after inspection rather than assumed either way.

BEFORE YOU BOOK
What to share before a Braeswood or Meyerland visit.
Provide the address, an authorized contact, the system brand, affected rooms and photos of equipment labels. For an elevated home, tell us where equipment is located now and whether any of it sits at ground level. Do not include passwords or access codes in the contact form.
For a renovation or rebuild, share the plans, the finished-floor elevation if known, the current stage and the builder or architect contact. Ask about scheduling, any diagnostic or design charges, and what the first visit covers. Scope and scheduling are confirmed per address.
System guides and related services.
Choose the guide for your installed platform. Brand names identify the systems supported, not a guarantee that every model or requested change is serviceable.

Questions about AV service in Braeswood Place and Meyerland.
Where should AV equipment go in an elevated home?
Usually on the elevated living level or higher, in a location with power and ventilation, rather than in a ground-level garage or storage area. Floor elevations and flood-risk decisions are made by the homeowner, architect and engineer; the AV design follows those decisions.
Can equipment from before a flood or renovation be reused?
Sometimes. Reuse depends on condition, compatibility with new equipment and access to existing programming. Do not power on water-exposed equipment to test it. Electrical safety and the equipment itself need professional assessment before any return to use; exposed equipment may require replacement.
Do you work on systems another company installed?
Yes. Systems installed by others are supported. Gather equipment lists, drawings and account details. What can be changed depends on equipment condition, owner authorization and whether programming or source files are available.
When should AV be planned for a rebuild?
Before framing is finished, so conduit and chases between levels and the main equipment location can be built in. Share plans and the builder schedule early.
